Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

The opening rounds of the 2017 Pirelli World Challenge GT4 Series were held at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida.  The weather was sunny, warm and breezy, perfect for a weekend of racing action!  The KPR crew debuted the brand new McLaren 570S GT4, recently acquired from McLaren in London, England. The new sponsor Tender Belly is featured prominently on the new livery of the bright orange car, and made their presence known by handing out over 1500 samples of their premium Certified Awesome bacon to the eager crowd surrounding the transporter.

Preliminary test sessions went very well, with Mark and the car performing flawlessly.  Qualifying saw a bit of a glitch in the electronics on the fast lap, putting Mark 13th on the grid for Round 1 the following day. McLaren sent over 2 support personnel to handle any teething problems for this first race debut of the car in the PWC series. They quickly sorted most of the issues that arose and the team was set for the first race.

Once again the weather was terrific, the crowd huge, and the overall atmosphere very festive as it always is in St. Petersburg. The field took off and Mark was able to move up through the field and finish in 11th place. A great first effort with the McLaren!

Mark once again held grid position 13 based on Round 1 lap times for the start of Round 2. Standing starts are always Marks favorites and he once again moved up to 9th on the first lap. He was running some of the best laps of his life when a low pressure water line failed on the car, ending the day for the #62 Tender Belly McLaren.

KPR would like to thank our sponsor Tender Belly for all the support they have provided. Make sure to attend a race this year and sample some of the finest bacon on the planet. Go to www.tenderbelly.com to order your bacon today!

Next up is Round 3 and Round 4 at the Virginia International Raceway, April 28-30, 2017.
