Gremlins Resurface at Utah Motorsports Campus
The Tender Belly KPR McLaren was prepped and ready to run strong at the Utah Motorsports Campus. Things were going well throughout the promoter test day and Qualifying. Mark started Round 13 P14 and ran strong, working his way up to P7. He faded a bit towards the end and finished P10. Some glitches with the shifting of the car had begun to surface and McLaren engineer Hansel worked diligently all evening to source the problem.
Meanwhile, the owners of Tender Belly, the main sponsor of the KPR McLaren had flown out to the Utah Motorsports Campus to see the car for the first time! Shannon and Eric Duffy enjoyed the race and fired up the BBQ to hand out samples of the best bacon available! KPR was thrilled they came and the fans were lining up for a tasty treat. Thanks again to Tender Belly for all the wonderful support and sponsorship this year!
Round 14 was run Sunday morning in sunny but very windy conditions. Mark started P11 in the standing start format but the car began to malfunction immediately. Eventually, the car became undriveable and Mark was forced to pit. At this point the race became a test session and the crew set about determining possible causes. Mark officially finished P14 but also moved up to P2 in the GTSA standings.
Next up, Circuit of the Americas, Austin, Texas September 2-3. See you there!
